Honoring the Lineage

Reiki has a history and lineage that deserve acknowledgement. This page is a space to honor its origins and to share how I practice within that tradition with care and awareness.

Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century through the teachings of Mikao Usui. One of his students, Chujiro Hayashi, helped refine and organize the system of practice. Reiki began within a specific cultural and spiritual context.

Hayashi later taught Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to Hawaii and eventually the mainland United States. Through her teaching, Reiki spread throughout the West and became known as Usui Shiki Ryoho. As the practice traveled across cultures, its language and structure evolved.

I am trained in the Usui Shiki Ryoho lineage and practice within this transmission. As a white woman practicing within a tradition that began in another cultural context, I approach this work with respect. I do not claim ownership of Reiki, and I remain committed to continued learning about its history and cultural roots.

I offer Reiki with gratitude for the lineage that carries it.
